Prevent your FIREFOX from eating memory.
Who don’t know the Firefox browser. It is now the second widely used browser in the globe. This IE eater browser [As you see in the picture above] can eat up your memory also! and to prevent Firefox from this I come up with a trick for you folks. Then follow these simple steps and see the magic!
Steps:
1-Press ctrl+T for opening a new tab or goto File>New Tab.
2-Type “about:config” without quotes into the address bar and press Enter.
3-Right-click anywhere, select New, then Integer. In the dialog prompt that appears, type: browser.cache.memory.capacity.
4-Click OK. Another dialog prompt will appear. This is where you decide how much memory to allocate to Firefox. This depends on how much RAM your computer has, but generally you don’t want to allocate too little (under 8MB), but if you allocate too much, you might as well not do this. A good recommended setting is 16MB. If you want 16MB, enter this value into the dialog prompt:16384
5-Click OK to close the dialog box, then close all instances of Firefox and restart. If your Firefox still uses the same amount of memory, give it a few minutes and it should slowly clear up. If that fails, try a system reboot.
Now don’t complain that your Firefox is leaking memory because it wont do this again!

cud u tell me…wat r the advantages of firefox over ie 7, other than “no ads” nd basic security?
Here is the Firefox 2.xx preferences over IE:
1-Small installation file
2-You don’t have to be a “GENUINE” user
3-Firefox don’t require reboot and much time for installation
4-Its open source means constant improvement
5-Both have the extension support but Firefox is the “Extension king” and IE cant compare with Firefox in this
6-Firefox has better RSS feeds management options and have its own feed reader while IE don’t
Hope you get the point.

Hi Nasir.. I read labnol regularly and just read this article on firefox memory http://labnol.blogspot.com/2007/09/firefox-runs-slow-speed-memory-fast.html
system reboot means the pc reboot .. is it?
and then found your article, was wondering which method to use
I have tried what i wrote….and it satisfied me.
however you can try amit’s tip also.
ya it means pc reboot.
Nice tweak. But it seems there is no need of this if you have lot of free system memory or you have excess amount of memory.
