It has been 40 years since the man has reached the moon and now he is planning to put his feet on other heavenly bodies as well. But how many from the earth (besides astronauts) can go up there? Those who make it can be counted on fingers.

Questions here arise like could Google convince Vodafone to re-sign another agreement with it?, would Vodafone like to change the taste and try another service provider?, would Yahoo, Google’s long term rival, be able to penetrate further into the European market as it already has agreements with European mobile operators O2 of Telefonica and T-Mobile of Deutsche Telekom AG?

Bloomberg through referencing people familiar with the possible deal, reports about Vodafone Yahoo talks. Though tells nothing if the deal is inked.

Officially though, there is no report confirming the deal. Yahoo reports about its talks with a number of mobile phone operators, Vodafone on the other hand, is also reported to have had involved in talks with others service providers.

The deal if materialized will make Yahoo, Vodafone handsets’ default search engine and will tighten Yahoos’ grip even more on the European market, exactly what Yahoo desperately needs at this time after losing its dominant position in desktop web services to Google.

In my opinion, the deal seems to get materialize since Yahoo is the best alternative in place of Google if Vodafone wants to change its taste which seems quiet likely. And for Yahoo its simply not possible for it to let the European giant pass by, it definitely will try its best to get chosen.

By clicking on the check box next to the listed feature, the feature could be turned on or off. With IE 8 also, it will only be disabled and not totally uninstalled from the system, only the executable file iexplore.exe is deleted. This is the best compromise as there are components shared commonly by IE and other applications, also one might want to enable the IE some time later, it will be facilitating for him to just select to enable the IE 8 from the On-Off panel without having to look for installation disks.

The bundling of IE with the OS till now has not been fruitful for a competitive environment, it has been like imposing users with something either they want it or not. The step that MS has planned to take will definitely result in better user experience and will hopefully satisfy the European Commission.

It is not an easy step by Microsoft which is taking place at a time when it is continuously losing its popularity to its competitors.

Presented in the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference, held in California, this handset is based on Symbian S60 platform. Told as Nokia’s first touchscreen handset, codenamed ‘Tube’, the big one from Nokia expected to be released end this year, because there going also some high-ends to be released then and a healthy competition is likely to be created. Although Tube appears almost as an iPhone copy, with the only noticable exception of Nokia’s logo, iPhone has readily been challenged by Nokia, hence called the Tube iPhone Killer. It will be interesting to see an iPhone copy going to ‘kill’ iPhone.
Nokia seems quiet an aggressive guy in a mood to outclass the another guy iPhone who has been quiet successful so far but a ‘not-giant’ in the world of handsets which is dominated very much by the former. And because of this there are received some strict signals from Nokia.

Comparing the sales which iPhone had in the last six months with that of Nokia’s, in the very words of Forum Nokia’s vice president, Tom Libretto:

“We’ve done that since we’ve had dinner on Friday”.

Note that the sales magnitude of some days of Nokia included all of Nokia’s models while its iPhone alone the model on the other side which took almost half a year to come to the sales point equalling the former. Such an ‘expert’ comparison, by a man of such designation? What could be said about it.
The Tube will have 3G connectivity and java support, features which the iPhone lacked. No words for the exact date of shipment and price yet.

Opera is consistently on its way to top in the world of mobile browsers for which till now it has proved to be the best. Their Opera Mini 4.0 released back in November 2007 gained much attention, claiming for the Opera mini 4.1 browser’s increasing popularity (users estimated to be around 40 million). 1- 50% increase in speed than the previous release

Opera has upgraded it’s servers for providing faster browsing experience. Pages are first downloaded to the servers, there they compressed to around 90% and then send to the phones. Because your internet connection and the mobile phone type you are using have their impact on the speed, you can best experience the 50% more speed than Opera Mini 4.0 if you use the same connection and phone type with this new release as with Opera Mini 4.0.

2- Google Mobile search and URL Auto-Completion

The start page of the browser has the URL field to be typed in and search can be made for a word in the same URL field, the search system is powered by Google. A useful yet innovating feature in the mobile browsers is the Auto-Completion of the URL field. Suggestion of the web addresses are based on the web history and bookmarking.

3- Type a web address without going to the start page

The URL field can also be accessed without going to the start page by entering ‘Menu’ in the bottom left of the screen and then ‘Enter Address’. The URL field will appear on the top of the screen.

4- Search for a word in a web page

Go to ‘Menu’, ‘Tools’ and ‘Find In Page’. Type in the word you want to find on the web page you are at the moment.

5- Save web pages to view them offline later on

This feature shows it’s importance when you are having signal problems and encountering frequent disconnections, so that you can save web pages that you want in a short time when there is a connection, there maybe a reason other than that. The point here is that you are enabled to view web pages offline.

6- Upload and download files from Opera Mini 4.1 Beta

Users having phones supporting the JSR-75 specification, are enable to download and upload files from and to the web. Now you can upload your picture or other images to the social site you are a member of, attach a file with an e-mail, upload a short clip for online viewing, download an image, a clip, an audio file or a tone for your mobile, all right from your Opera Mini 4.1 Beta. Isn’t it a great browser to have on your mobile phone?

Yahoo modifies its homepage with the centering of its logo which was on the left side of the page previously. Some people may think of this stuff as not-so-deserving to be in the news as its just a logo relocating process but others may look at it as a business tactic to attract the surfers (as Google has done). Also, any unimportant stuff when associated with a giant, becomes one the popular news. Google’s very successful history is said to be the result of Google’s simple homepage with the logo in center, I think that Yahoo is trying to follow the Google footsteps by nearing Google in terms of logo. Is Yahoo going to simplify its homepage by taking next step towards ‘cleaning’ its homepage and further nearing Google? Also, Yahoo had its logo centered before the previous modification, Just Whatever the Sunnyvale giant’s people had planned for, either normal updating or Google following? The step is in the news and as such that it had appealed me to write this post.

Technological advancements are resulting in to facilitate people with features like lesser expenditure of time to do a task and with more accuracy, lesser consumption of space by a device and lesser spending of money for more better devices.New Solid State Drives from OCZ Technology fulfill the ‘merit criteria’ written above. With the speed of 120 MB/s for reading and 100 MB/s for writing the data, this second generation of OCZ SSDs have doubled the reading speed and remained slightly short of tripling the writing speed when compared with its predecessor which had the 58MB/s and 35MB/s reading and writing speeds respectively. One thing which is common in both is the size i.e. 2.5 inch. Also this generation of SSDs are less pricey than their predecessors with the price tag of $1099 as compared to the previous one which was $1200 with same capacity of 64MB which was the only model available in that generation. The another model in the new SSDs is 0f 32MB capacity and worth $499.

The data reading speed of 120 MB/s has resulted in the upgradation of the SSDs to SATA-II standard, since that much speed of 120 MB/s is beyond the capabilities of the SATA-I standard. By upgrading to SATA-II standard, the data transfer rates are extended to 300 MB/s, which I think could be capable enough to work with the future generation SSDs of more increased speeds.

These 100.2 x 70 x 9.5mm Solid State Drives come up with RAID support and 2 million hours of MTBF, weighing only 77 grams giving themselves a significant edge over having bulky conventional Hard Disk Drives. Also, these SSD drives are more reliable in a way that they are less prone to damage with shock resistance of 1500G than more fragile HDDs.

After getting known of these SSDs from ‘all-sides’, the bad thing I have found about these devices is of its price, which is somewhat made to manage in the second generation, still is quiet more. But the hope is also there as there are claims that these devices would have their prices lowered after some time to an affordable point.
