The HAL works as follows: A person wearing the suit, when tries to move, electrical signal from his brain are transmitted to the muscles. These electrical signals are sensed by the sensors stuck with the skin.

Through these sensors HAL gets to know the movement’s direction and force, the mode is called ‘voluntary control system’. The other mode of operation is called ‘robotic autonomous control system’, operating on the basis of movement information stored in the device’s database.

According to the Manufacturer, HAL being a exoskeleton built, need not the wearer’s support and supports itself, thus, appearing lighter to the wearer. However, it has the weight of 23 Kg, a battery driven product remains operational for around two and a half hours continuously. Multitude of activities one can do wearing it include walking, standing, objects lifting, climbing up stairs and down stairs and a lot others.

Prices for the suit for rent are around $1450-$1500 and $2200 per month for one-legged and two-legged versions respectively. For purchase the price is $4200. For now, all are in Japan only. Words are that there are planning to make the product reach European markets, nothing could be said for the US for now though.

It will take Hyundai quiet some time and some competitive products attracting consumers itself to make its presence matter for the industry.

It it this sense of feeling that has urged the Korean company launch its economical product to compete with its fellow Korean and the industry’s well known player LG, whose £1,000 GD-910 is challenged by the more affordable £200 tagged MB-910 (SIM-Free).

The one-fifth price cut is not for free since buyers will have to compromise over video calls, seems not too bad considering the price difference.

A tri-band supporting device having 3 hours talk time and an stand-by estimate of 70 hours, weighing only 58 grams, has the touchscreen resolution of 132 x 176 pixels displaying up to 65K colors, media playback, SMS/MMS and bluetooth functionality to let you talk right from your headset. Featured also are a WAP browser and an e-mail client.

China is a place of what straight-forwardly called is ‘copycats’. Making products matching accurately with the ‘genuine’ western products and far too less (than the western ones) in prices is not a hard job for Chinese manufacturers. Although, Chinese products are a compromise over quality, they still attract a large attention towards them worldwide and especially in the developing countries because of their cheapness which hides to a large extent, their downside of being lower in quality. Added to this aspect of being amazingly cheap, Chinese products are in many cases have more features than their genuine counterparts. And some times they have such amazing features which we hardly have thought of. Now, there is a Chinese mobile phone which requires to be charged only once over a period of two years. I hadn’t thought of it earlier, had you?

Noticeable features including, the battery of 32800 mAh having such long stand-by time, 3″ touchscreen, 1.3 MP camera, dual-SIM support, 4 speakers, MP3 & MP4 player, Bluetooth, GPRS, WAP, e-book reading and English/Chinese hand recognition system.

Chinese creativity is not limited to a particular field but is found in whatever product they create. This mobile phone about which is written above has so much features and added to them are some other minor features not mentioned here.

In the end, its not required to say that gradually China is increasing its market share. The ‘weapons’ that China uses to achieve its goal are firstly the cheapness and secondly the number of features of its products.

What’s quoted above in the title has been done with the new Dell’s Latitude XFR D630 which is designed to be operable in extreme conditions, this tough chassis ‘toughbook’, qualifies US defense departments’ MIL-STD-810F standard, proving the products’ sufficient ruggedness to survive in extremes.

This rugged notebook can survive in such harsh conditions as altitude, humidity and temperature and any other natural extreme that could happen. Arrangement for shock preventing mounting has been made to protect the LCD, hard drive etc. The sealed keyboard prevents water and dust from getting in and rubber-made covers protect the external ports from the elements. Thanks to the brightness of 500 nits that enables a user to continue with his/her work even in direct sunlight on the 14.1-inch display.

Brett McAnally, director of the Dell Product Group said:

The Latitude XFR D630 represents a tectonic shift toward simplicity in the ruggedized laptop space.

He further added:

We are taking a multidimensional approach that focuses on simplified deployment, service and durability without sacrificing performance. Major competitors focus their efforts on ‘rugged’ only.

The notebook’s standard configuration include a 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, a 512 MB RAM, an 80 GB hard drive and a DVD/CD-RW combo drive and Windows XP, and could be customized to have a 2.2GHz processor, 32GB and 64GB solid state drives (which makes this notebook more durable in terms of data), a DVD burner and a resistive touchscreen. Via the ExpressCharge technology, this notebook has an edge over others that it’s batteries gets charged to full approximately 30 minutes earlier. Also included in the laptop are 802.11n WiFi support, GPS and a thermal management system for the RAM and processor.

The notebook has the starting price of $3899 and goes on depending on configuration. Will be offered in two colors: Black and Desert Tan. Measuring 2.6 X 13.9 X 10.2 inches and weighing about 4 Kg (or 8.81 lbs) .

According to Michael Dell:

Since these products are built to take a beating, they do, with all too predictably painful results. How do users, often in remote locations with service techs nowhere in sight, return broken systems for maintenance as many vendors demand? Quite simply, at high cost, That is a fundamental issue Dell aims to correct with the new Latitude XFR D630. Delivering laptops that can and do go wherever employees must, no matter what the demands, could also help Dell’s Latitude XFR D630 become a veritable Humvee of laptops, making it synonymous with environmentally extreme computing.

In my opinion, this tough-guy could be considered as the ‘terminator’ equivalent of notebooks, because I don’t see as much rugged a notebook as this one is. Also, performance wise it is 23% better than Panasonic’s CF-30. It will be true to say that durability and performance are combined into one.

After thinking for some time to justify the $17000 worth of a Blu-ray Player, I couldn’t find any reason that makes sense. That much money is enough for a person to buy a ‘not-so-luxurious’ car. But I also know that, that much worth for a Blu-ray player from the Swiss company Goldmund is not a strange one since the name of Goldmund is very much ’synonym’ to senseless overpricing of products.

Now come to some details of the player to know what we have for $17000. The player Eidos 20 BD has been equipped with a ’special’ power supply circuit “AC Curator” to give AV stability, an arrangement named as “Mechanical Grounding” to remove vibrations and hence prevent the videos from getting blurred, and Goldmund’s very own “Magnetic Damper” to eliminate reading errors and further improve the overall performance of the player also this one is said to be included only in ‘high-end’ Goldmund products.

I think I am not the one impressed by these features in such a way that I forget the amount it takes to buy the player. If you are the one, then you are no doubt an AV ‘purist’.

What do you think is Goldmund just in pricing its products or not? Have your say.
Hmm.. If you are worried about vibrations, couldnt you just copy the film to a harddisk and play it from there?

I would spend that money on the display. Or a car.

Related posts:

ALLPlayer: Media Player For Non-English Speakers

Porsche P9521: Luxurious car manufacturer now also in mobile phone business.

Watch Movies In MS Paint!

No Its Not A Music Player, Its A Mobile Phone.

Domain name: Why should you own it?

Copyright © 2008
This feed is for personal, non-commercial use only.
The use of this feed on other websites breaches copyright.
“What?” I shouted also when I read the title. A conceptual cell phone by Atlas Kinetic is without a battery and gets powered when moved or shaken, seems like a wrist watch type which don’t require batteries but a shake or two which it gets easily from our routine movements.

I think its not as simple to apply the same to a cell phone as applied to a wrist watch because a wrist watch is almost always attached to the wrist, and as I wrote above the movement of our hand provide the watch with enough kinetic energy to get it powered. With the mobile phone things are somehow different in the way that we don’t have the phone all the time in our hands like the wrist watch and hence, can’t equal the wrist watch in terms of getting powered. Also, with the ease of powering the watch as compared with the phone, there’s another point that a watch requires less power than a phone.

This Aluminum-glass handset is ’straight-forwardly’ only a mobile phone and has no extra functions other that sending and receiving calls and messages.

Uniquely designed with a small display and a circular keypad had made me to attract towards the cell phone and then I couldn’t resist myself to read about the it. See for yourself.

The ‘robot syndrome’ has took over the people around the world in such a way that the time has come when a mobile phone has been made to look like a robot. The Toshiba 815T PB, is one such phone, will be released by the Japanese mobile operator ‘Softbank’ in April this year in two colors: Black & Silver.

Having a weight of 107 grams, this cool handset has 3G connectivity, 240 X 320 pixel resolution on the 2.4 inch display, 0.8 inch of external display and a 3.2 MP camera. The phone’s memory can be extended up to 2 GB via a microSD card. Also it, has a music player, is Infrared enabled and is capable of accessing Internet.

Here I must write, this phone is one of its kind, having such cool features written above and a great look. For those who can’t wait for the handset to have it in their countries after its release, I must write that it could be bought via SoftBank website.

Nokia research centre (NRC) unveiled its new concept phone named Morph in collaboration with university of Cambridge Nanoscience Center(UK). Its a joint nanotechnology concept with endless possibilities and magical capabilities. It is the next generation phone which can do so many wonderful things like no other portable device can. It has been featured today in The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) “Design and The Elastic Mind” exhibition (which is going on from February 24 to May 12, 2008,) in New York.

<ins datetime="2008-02-25T21:48:24+00:00">Features:</ins>

This concept phone as I have previously said, can do wonders and may create fantastic opportunities for portable world such as:

It is very flexible and will blend seamlessly with our normal life with the stretchable silicon built into it.

It can clean itself automatically from dust, liquids and even fingerprints with its Super hydrophobic “Nanoflowers”.

With a solar charging option through “Nanograss”, it has proved itself to be a hardcore environment friendly.

Is the apple I am buying washed and hygienic? Is the air I am breathing in is free from germs? You would be able to ask these type of questions from the morph which will be answered with the help of its Integrated sensors which would enable us to choose the thing which would be best for our environment and ultimately for ourselves.

One more thing, it would have transparent greenish type electronics, meaning you could see through it. Amazing isn’t it?

In addition to the features I have written above, it would have one more feature which is more functionality in less cost and space. All of these new capabilities will unleash new horizons to communicate and interact in unprecedented ways.

It could be transformed in various types of shapes according to one’s needs including:
Standard mode: Just like any normal handset.
Landscape mode: In this mode, It could analyze things with its nanosensors in great detail. Just like the apple example I gave above.
Bracelet mode: Wrist up the phone around your hand just like a watch as you might have seen in some sci-fi movie.

How this all works?

According to nokia.com

Nanotechnology enables materials and components that are flexible, stretchable, transparent and remarkably strong. Fibril proteins are woven into a three dimensional mesh that reinforces thin elastic structures. Using the same principle behind spider silk, this elasticity enables the device to literally change shapes and configure itself to adapt to the task at hand.

Comments from the authoritys:

Dr. Tapani Ryhanen, Head of the NRC Cambridge UK laboratory said:

We hope that this combination of art and science will showcase the potential of nanoscience to a wider audience. The research we are carrying out is fundamental to this as we seek a safe and controlled way to develop and use new materials.

Dr. Bob Iannucci, Chief Technology Officer, Nokia, told:

Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible.

Professor Mark Welland, Head of the Department of Engineering’s Nanoscience Group at the University of Cambridge and University Director of Nokia-Cambridge collaboration mentioned:

Developing the Morph concept with Nokia has provided us with a focus that is both artistically inspirational but, more importantly, sets the technology agenda for our joint nanoscience research that will stimulate our future work together.

The partnership between Nokia and the University of Cambridge started in March, 2007 in result of an agreement to work together on research projects. Nokia has established its research center branch at the West site of Cambridge university and aimed to collaborate with several departments functioning of which has started from the Nanoscience Center and Electrical Division of the Engineering Department with projects centered on nanotechnology.

To see morph in action, we have to wait at least 7 years, because the concept shown here is easy to see, but not that easy to build and thats why in the beginning, it may cost much but would likely reach the pockets of people after taking some time when nanotechnology will grow up from its infancy.

See the video also and decide for yourself whether it is a revolutionary concept or not.

This entry contains so many poorly structured sentences that lead to ambiguity of meaning, so many "small" mistakes, such a lack of proper capitalization, missing or redundant punctuation, word misuse and run-on sentences that lose connection with their initial point, that the reader wonders if the writer truly understands the subject or is simply parroting set phrases.

My impression is that the writer is not adequately educated in English and therefore not qualified to represent such a prestigious client as Nokia, especially in the introduction of new and exciting technology, where clarity and quality of language is essential to attracting customers.

Writing conveys more than information about a product; it also characterizes the writer. How he writes reflects well or poorly on himself and by association, his client.

February 26, 2008, canvasch writes: Joseph Harris is a dick.

Back on topic: I think seven years is resonable, try googling or stubling for nano's. We are getting better at making, and controlling, the tech. and with the computerpower that whe'll have in five years things could go pretty fast.
