Amazon’s Kindle:A threat to paper books?
Although the paper feeling for reading books has it’s own charm and no ‘revolutionary’ e-book yet has managed to replace the traditional style paper reading with reading a book electronically, I fear that Amazon’s Kindle can pose some extent of threats to paper books. Because in “Kindle”:
1- Reading books is made as comfortable as reading a paper book.
2- Eye straining is not an issue as there is no back light.
3- Weight is only 300 gms.
4- Built-in memory can have upto 200 books.
5- Memory can be increased upto 4GB by using an external SD memory card.
6- Books can be bought online from Amazon.com by using Kindle’s Sprint EVDO connection, and there’s no need of having a PC for purchasing, as shopping can be done directly from Kindle.
At a price of $400, the device may be thought of as a little bit expensive one than Sony’s PRS-500 at $350, but with the features which Kindle has and others lack, I don’t think someone wise enough will prefer Sony’s over Amazon’s for just 50 bucks. The $50 extra which one pays gives him features which is more worthy than this extra amount.
