Yahoo Centers Its Sided Logo, Plan To Follow Google?

March 26th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Tech News

Yahoo modifies its homepage with the centering of its logo which was on the left side of the page previously. Some people may think of this stuff as not-so-deserving to be in the news as its just a logo relocating process but others may look at it as a business tactic to attract the surfers (as Google has done). Also, any unimportant stuff when associated with a giant, becomes one the popular news. Google’s very successful history is said to be the result of Google’s simple homepage with the logo in center, I think that Yahoo is trying to follow the Google footsteps by nearing Google in terms of logo. Is Yahoo going to simplify its homepage by taking next step towards ‘cleaning’ its homepage and further nearing Google? Also, Yahoo had its logo centered before the previous modification, Just Whatever the Sunnyvale giant’s people had planned for, either normal updating or Google following? The step is in the news and as such that it had appealed me to write this post.

‘Made In China’ Mobile Phone Needs To Be Charged Only Once Per 2 Years

March 24th, 2008 | 7 Comments | Posted in Gadgets

China is a place of what straight-forwardly called is ‘copycats’. Making products matching accurately with the ‘genuine’ western products and far too less (than the western ones) in prices is not a hard job for Chinese manufacturers. Although, Chinese products are a compromise over quality, they still attract a large attention towards them worldwide and especially in the developing countries because of their cheapness which hides to a large extent, their downside of being lower in quality. Added to this aspect of being amazingly cheap, Chinese products are in many cases have more features than their genuine counterparts. And some times they have such amazing features which we hardly have thought of. Now, there is a Chinese mobile phone which requires to be charged only once over a period of two years. I hadn’t thought of it earlier, had you?

china-mobile-2-years-battery-life.jpgNoticeable features including, the battery of 32800 mAh having such long stand-by time, 3″ touchscreen, 1.3 MP camera, dual-SIM support, 4 speakers, MP3 & MP4 player, Bluetooth, GPRS, WAP, e-book reading and English/Chinese hand recognition system.

Chinese creativity is not limited to a particular field but is found in whatever product they create. This mobile phone about which is written above has so much features and added to them are some other minor features not mentioned here.

In the end, its not required to say that gradually China is increasing its market share. The ‘weapons’ that China uses to achieve its goal are firstly the cheapness and secondly the number of features of its products.

3 Drops For All Your File Sharing Needs

March 22nd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Web Services

Some days ago, I wanted to share some files with one of my friends, for which I was required to host my files online. I searched on google for different file hosting services and came across three websites of the type which I had been looking for and coincidently they all have one thing common in their name which is ‘drop’, so these are:

dropsend_logo.gif

1- Dropsend

Dropsend is a pretty nice service which offers free and some paid services according to one’s needs. If you are just a casual file sharing user than free package should be enough for you. You can send 5 files at maximum in a month with each file sized upto 1 GB and you will also get 250 MB of online storage as a bonus :P. For signing up, faq and pricing for other packages, go to here.

2- Filedropper

This is a relatively new service in the world of file sharing which I found as useful as Dropsend but the main difference between them is that this one offers 5 GB instead of 1 GB, allowing you to put in more stuff here! Just go and start uploading files. No registration (or signing up) required. Its time to say wow!!

dropio.jpg

3- Drop.io

And at last but not the least, here comes my favorite service named drop.io. This one is more like filedropper in the sense that it also doesn’t require any type of registration. The mechanism that makes it different is that, when you upload a file, it will give you a link as a drop point, and you just have to pass on this drop point to whom you want to share your files with. The downside of the service is that it does not allow uploading of files larger than 100 MB and hence is not suitable for uploading huge sized files like videos. But for documents, pictures and other small things which can fit into the limit, this service is promising.
